About

Core Process Psychotherapy is one of the original mindfulness-based psychotherapeutic approaches. It draws on the principles of mindfulness and psychology to offer a whole-person, presence-centred approach.

That doesn't mean you have to practice mindfulness or know anything about mindfulness.

The Core Process Psychotherapist invites awareness through empathic enquiry to create a safe, supportive space to explore thoughts, feelings and concerns.

Problems and difficulties are not necessarily seen as negative, unwanted or insurmountable. Instead, these edges of resistance are welcomed as opportunities for realisation, integration and greater clarity.

Once these denied aspects are seen, reclaimed and embodied, we are able to appreciate the fullness of our being and experience a more enlivened and integral sense of self.

Core Process Psychotherapy helps us face what we tend to avoid or deny. It builds our capacity to meet difficulties with an open, honest and kinder attitude and encourages a more supportive less judgemental way of relating to self, other and the world.

What happens in a session?

Sessions are for one hour and usually take place weekly at the same time. I offer short term therapy (weekly session over six weeks) and longer term weekly therapy. I also offer supervision for practising and therapists in training.

Appointments are available in person in Kelso, in the Scottish Borders or via video online, or by phone.

I offer a free initial meeting which gives us an opportunity to see if we can work together. The quality of the relationship between client and therapist is the best predictor of a good outcome for therapy.

What is Mindfulness

Mindfulness is a mind training which involves awareness, attention and intention. It grows inner spaciousness, conscious awareness, and a deepening sense of presence.

It also cultivates a more compassionate way to relate to self, others and the world so that we respond to life events rather than react.

Mindfulness is not about stopping thoughts or achieving a particular state. The practice is simply to notice and acknowledge what is happening as it happens.

The practice is simply to notice what comes into your awareness, acknowledge and allow each moment to be what it is. This opens us to the nuance of each moment, to the detail of life.

It builds our capacity to meet the reality of our experience directly and with equanimity, whether wanted or unwanted. So we meet each thought, feeling and sensation just as it is.

In mindfulness there is no notion of trying and there’s no such thing as wasted time. Every moment of your life matters. Every moment is a precious moment filled with possibility. You are the author of your experience so how you think, feel and act determines your reality.

The 8-week Mindfulness course is now available online. Join a group or opt for one to one tuition.
